Apple’s App Sales Exceed $10 Billion in 2013

The total amount spent on apps reached over $10 billion throughout 2013. Over $1 billion was spent in December alone with over three billion apps downloaded. This caused December to be a record breaking month for Apple’s App Store.

Responding the the record setting year,  Apple’s senior vice president of internet software and services Eddy Cue said, “We’d like to thank our customers for making 2013 the best year ever for the App Store. The line-up of apps for the holiday season was astonishing and we look forward to seeing what developers create in 2014.”

The App Store now features over one million apps available for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

As more and more people acquire smart devices, it would be no surprise if the upcoming year is just a fruitful for app producers. However, with Google starting to develop and promote more of their own Android powered apps, it will be interesting to see just what 2014 will have in store for the app markets.
